
For a few years, Amazon Monitron was the easiest way for an industrial team to get serious about predictive maintenance. Stick a sensor on a motor, scan it with a phone, and let machine learning tell you when something was drifting out of spec. No data scientists. No integration project. It worked, and hundreds of plants built their reliability programs around it.
Then AWS stopped selling it.
If you landed here searching for Monitron, you’re probably holding one of two things:
- a fleet of sensors you’re not sure how long you can trust, or
- a maintenance budget and a product page that no longer lets you buy anything.
Here’s the honest picture, and where the technology actually went.
Amazon Monitron is discontinued. You can’t buy it.
This isn’t a slowdown or a quiet deprioritization. It’s an end of life, executed in stages:
- October 2024. Monitron closed to new customers. If you weren’t already commissioned by then, the door shut.
- July 2025. AWS stopped selling devices entirely, including to existing customers.
- Ongoing. No new features. AWS has been explicit that development stopped; the service receives security, availability, and performance maintenance only.
So if you’re evaluating Monitron for a new line, a new plant, or an expansion of an existing deployment: it isn’t an option. Not at a higher price, not through a partner, not with a special agreement. The product is closed.
Your existing sensors work, but support has no guaranteed end date
This is the part most teams underestimate.
AWS committed to honoring the five year device warranty and providing service support. What AWS has not published is a firm date for when the Monitron service itself will be switched off. That sounds reassuring. It shouldn’t be.
A discontinued product with no feature roadmap and no new customers is a cost center. Cloud services in that position are typically retired with a standard notice period, often measured in months rather than years. When that notice arrives, every sensor you own becomes a piece of plastic on a bearing housing, because Monitron sensors are useless without the Monitron cloud service behind them.
The practical risk isn’t that your sensors stop working tomorrow. It’s that your entire reliability program sits on a platform with an undeclared expiry date: the alert thresholds, the workflows, the trust your maintenance team has built in the data. And you’ll learn the date at the same time as everyone else.
The right time to plan a migration is before you’re given a deadline.
Soralink is the official successor to Monitron
Not an alternative. Not a “similar solution”. Soralink licensed the core technology behind Amazon Monitron from AWS.
That distinction matters in a concrete way. Every other vendor writing “Monitron replacement” blog posts is asking you to rip out your sensors and start over with their hardware, their commissioning process, and their unproven models. Soralink didn’t rebuild Monitron from the outside. We own what was inside it.
What that means for you:
- Your existing Monitron sensors keep running. Sora Bridge connects your installed hardware to the Soralink platform. No hardware swap, no recommissioning, no writing off the investment.
- Your history comes with you. The models that made Monitron useful were trained on the same technological foundation we now develop.
- The roadmap restarts. Monitron’s development stopped in 2024. Ours didn’t.
Where Soralink goes beyond Monitron ?
Continuity is the reason to talk to us. It isn’t the reason to choose us. Monitron was a strong v1 that stopped improving, and the ceiling it hit is exactly where we’ve spent our engineering.
A third dimension: sound. Monitron watched vibration and temperature. Sora Lite adds acoustic monitoring and analyzes all three signals together. Many failure modes announce themselves acoustically well before they show up as a vibration signature: cavitation, lubrication starvation, early gear mesh faults. Two dimensions tell you something changed. Three tell you what changed.
Sampling you control. Monitron locked you into a fixed one hour cycle. That’s fine for a healthy motor and useless when you’re diagnosing an intermittent fault at 2 a.m. Sora Lite runs at 10 or 60 minute intervals by default and can be pushed down to one minute when an asset needs a closer look.
Hardware that doesn’t lock you in. Sora Bridge speaks MQTT, AMQP, HTTPS, and IO Link. Your Monitron sensors, your third party vibration sensors, your existing instrumentation: one platform, one alert stream, one place your team looks.
Built for the whole plant, not just the critical list. Five year battery life and IP68 industrial grade housings mean the economics work when you monitor every motor, not only the twenty assets that made the capital approval cut.
Native AWS architecture. The platform is built on AWS and optimized for it, the same cloud foundation Monitron ran on, with the processing headroom and ML infrastructure that a maintained, actively developed product can actually take advantage of.

What to do now ?
If you’re running Monitron today, you have time, but less of it than the absence of an end of service date suggests. A planned migration on your schedule costs a fraction of an emergency one on AWS’s.
